About Fulton

Fulton is a friendly and wholesome rural community located in northwestern Illinois, in Whiteside County, which sits on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The City of Fulton has a population of 3,647 people according to the 2020 Census and covers an area of 2.3 square miles. Fulton is known for its pride in its Dutch heritage. Fulton currently has five main attractions for visitors to explore: the Fulton (Martin House) Historical Museum, the Andresen Nature Center, 12-acre pioneer village known as Heritage Canyon, a fully functional windmill named “de Immigrant”, and the Windmill Cultural Center. Recreational opportunities exist for all four seasons including a marina, an extensive bike/hike/walking trail and a hotel to offer lodging.

Fulton is situated on the banks of the beautiful and majestic Mississippi River, is on the historic “Lincoln Highway”, the “Ronald Reagan Trail”, the “Great River Road”, and “Great River Trail”. On the edge of town, see Lock & Dam 13, Sand Prairie, Sunfish Slough, Cattail Slough, and Mickelson’s Landing. Fulton has a public school district which is consolidated between two neighboring towns and also is home to a private school system. There is a wonderful variety in the types of business that reside in Fulton proper and unincorporated Fulton. Fulton is a great community to live and raise a family or to retire to. Residents know who their neighbors are and genuinely care.

Numerous eateries offer a plethora of food items to choose from. Many of the retail and service businesses are located in our historic downtown for close and easy shopping. The majority of Fulton’s large service, industrial, agricultural, and manufacturing companies are situated on the outskirts near rail, river, and highway access.
